WHAT IS AN EICR REPORT _ post

Electrical Installation Condition Reports

An EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report) describes the condition of an electrical installation that is created following an inspection of a home or business’s electrical installation. It must be performed by a qualified local electrician or an authorised contractor with practical qualifications and extensive knowledge to do so. This typically means they have an industry-recognised certification and are members of a scheme such as the NICEIC or similar.

When Are EICRs Required?

Regular testing should be done on all structures with electrical wiring. The frequency of EICRs that are advised varies based on factors including the use of the premises and the degree of danger involved.

Every ten years, it is advised that all households perform domestic electrical testing and create an EICR to examine the installation’s quality and make sure there hasn’t been any deterioration. A business EICR will be necessary every year, although inspections will only be necessary every five years.

There may be reasons why an EICR is needed more frequently.

The following are some common reasons:

  • The type of property, as well as the age of the installation (the older the installation, the more often an EICR should be performed). Many commercial properties, for example, are subject to regular commercial EICR inspections.
  • Misuse- such as vandalism or exposure to harsh weather or UV light, is referred to as environmental conditions.
  • The use of domestic premises has changed. This may be due to a change of occupancy of rental properties, the preparation of a property for sale, or the purchase of a property. In rental properties, it is strongly recommended that a landlord electrical safety certificate be issued with each change of occupancy to ensure that the property remains electrically secure.

What does an EICR involve?

An EICR’s main function is to inspect the property’s electrical system regularly to detect issues before they become severe or dangerous.

A visual inspection, dead testing, and live testing will all be part of the inspection.

During an EICR, the inspector can make several electrical observations and assign each one a C1 C2 or C3 recommendation code. The findings point to a fault or absence in the electrical system.

EICR codes:

  • C1 = Danger Present, Immediate Remedial Action Required; There is a chance of injury, and urgent action is needed to correct the potential danger.
  • C2 = Potential Danger Urgent Remedial Action Required; ‘potentially dangerous condition’: Immediate remedial action is needed; this should state the nature of the issue, not the actions that are required.
  • C3 = Improvement Recommended; This code usually indicates that, although the installation does not comply with current regulations, it does comply with previous regulations and is therefore considered safe, though this protection may be enhanced.

It is critical to conduct a regular electrical safety inspection to ensure that your electrical system will not fail you when you least expect it.

Our local electrician in Leeds will inform you if any remedial work is needed after completing your Electrical Inspection Condition report, and will provide you with a quote as soon as possible, along with an approximate availability to begin the work.

Paul the Director of Scott Electrical was one of 3 approved installers recommended by EO.
When i rang and spoke to Paul he came across very well and i was confident to give him my job to install the car charger.
The date was confirmed and Paul himself and one of his colleagues arrived on time. They completed the installation without any issues and their work was of a very high order . Furthermore Paul took the time to explain thoroughly the workings of the EO app which is required for use with the charger.
I would certainly recommend Paul /Scott Electrical to my friends and colleagues for any future electrical work.
