Large-Scale Solar Installation For Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Facility, Leeds
Scott Electrical delivered a large-scale rooftop solar PV system for a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Leeds, designed to significantly reduce energy costs and support long-term sustainability goals.
Project Overview
Operating within a high-demand, regulated environment, the project required careful planning and coordination to ensure works could be carried out safely, efficiently, and without disruption to ongoing production.
The installation was completed across multiple warehouse buildings, forming part of a wider roof refurbishment programme and making full use of the available roof space.
Key Project Statistics
The system now delivers strong, measurable performance across both financial and environmental metrics:
256,000
kWh Annual Energy Generation
53,000
£ Annual Energy Cost Savings
120
Tonnes Of Carbon Saved Annually
3
Years Projected Payback Period
Around 99%
Generated Energy Consumed On-Site
These results reflect a highly efficient system, tailored to match the site’s significant and consistent energy demand.
Project Highlights
System Design & Specification
The system was engineered to maximise output across multiple roof areas while maintaining compliance with structural and operational constraints.
A total of 458 high-efficiency JA Solar 600W panels were installed, delivering a combined system size of 274.8 kWp. These are supported by a combination of Solis inverters (60kW, 40kW and 25kW), providing reliable performance and flexibility across the different roof zones.
Despite the complexity of the layout, the system achieves a strong performance ratio of 94.6%, with shading losses kept to an absolute minimum at just 0.3%.
Installation & Delivery
Scott Electrical managed the full process, from design and engineering through to installation, grid connection and commissioning. Works were carefully scheduled to minimise disruption, ensuring the facility could continue operating throughout.
The team’s experience working in live, high-compliance environments was critical to the smooth delivery of the project.
Performance & Impact
Beyond cost savings, the system also plays an important role in reducing the site’s carbon footprint and supporting wider ESG objectives.
Outcome
This project demonstrates how well-designed solar installations can deliver significant commercial and environmental benefits, even within complex, operationally sensitive environments.
By integrating the system into an existing refurbishment programme and tailoring the design to the site’s energy profile, Scott Electrical has delivered a solution that is both highly efficient and built for long-term performance.
